I retained a lawyer from Miles Davison LLP for what I expected to be a fairly straightforward legal matter. Over time, I became increasingly concerned about the quality of representation, and I eventually chose to switch firms to resolve the issue more efficiently. The following were the main issues I encountered: • Lack of preparation: Despite substantial time billed for "review" and "preparation," the lawyer consistently needed to be reminded of basic facts about my case during our calls. Even by the fifth and final hearing, the lawyer seemed unfamiliar with key figures. I also observed that prior communications from the opposing counsel didn’t appear to have been fully reviewed. • Disorganization: There were multiple instances where commitments were not followed through on. For example, prior to the fourth hearing, I was told in writing that a counter-settlement offer would be sent, but this never happened. When I asked about it during a phone call, the lawyer appeared unaware of the email exchange. • Lack of billing transparency: The first post-retainer invoice was simply quoted as a lump sum without detail, and I had to follow up several times to confirm that the retainer had been fully used. Subsequent invoices were also delayed. In contrast, the firm I eventually switched to provided detailed, timely, and clearly explained billing. • Delays and prolonging: Although I initially paused the case to seek an alternative resolution, I made it clear when we resumed that I wanted to move forward efficiently. Despite this, the case stagnated without a clear explanation. After switching firms, I was surprised at how quickly the case was resolved. • Passive representation: At the final hearing, I was disappointed with how my position was presented. The resulting court order did not reflect critical aspects of my case, and it appeared that relevant points were not emphasized or defended. My new legal counsel had to work to correct this outcome. In hindsight, I wish I had made the change sooner. The new law firm resolved the matter quickly and professionally. My experience with Miles Davison LLP was not what I had hoped for, and I would encourage others to ask detailed questions before proceeding and set clear expectations up front.
