I brought my vehicle to Commandeur for an out-of-province inspection and subsequent repairs they recommended. The total bill was approximately $2,000, including replacement of the front shocks. A week later when I picked the vehicle up, I immediately felt that it did not drive as tightly as it had before. I questioned whether I was imagining it and didn't think much of it at the time. Shortly afterward, a noise developed and continued to get worse. I eventually took the vehicle to another mechanic to determine the cause. I was informed that one of the driver's side front brake caliper bolts was completely missing and the remaining caliper bolt was loose and rubbing against the wheel, which was causing the noise. What concerns me most is not just the missing/loose bolts, but the fact that this was a critical brake component and it was discovered immediately after the inspection and repair work had been completed by Commandeur. Finding a loose and missing caliper bolt naturally raises questions about whether any other components may have been left loose or improperly reassembled. I contacted Commandeur to discuss the issue by email. Rather than responding in writing, I received a phone call from Danielle, who deflected responsibility, lectured me about how I shoud not have gone to another mechanic, and was told there was nothing they could do because they had not personally seen the condition of the vehicle (it was only in their shop for a week) I understand that mistakes can happen. What disappointed me was the response when I approached them. I was hoping for some level of accountability, concern, or willingness to investigate a serious safety-related issue. Instead, I was left with the repair bill, the concern of having driven the vehicle in that condition, and no confidence in the work that was performed Based on this experience, I cannot recommend this shop.
